Sugar barbie water apples are a large variety, averaging 5 to 8 centimeters in diameter and 9 to 10 centimeters in length, and have a bell-like shape with a narrow, curved neck widening to a broad, slightly flattened base. Each fruit averages 200 to 300 grams in weight, sometimes growing as large as 380 grams. Sugar Barbie water apple have a high sugar content, ranging from 12 to 14 Brix, creating a mild, sweet, sour, and refreshing taste. The base of the fruit is typically the sweetest portion of the flesh, becoming milder towards the stem end.

Citra is one of the largest water apple varieties, reaching up to 200 grams in weight, and has a bulbous and curved, bell-shape. The skin is dark red, waxy, glossy, and smooth with a taut but delicate feel as the surface can be easily punctured. Underneath the skin, the flesh is thick, pale yellow to ivory and seedless with a spongy, watery, and crisp consistency. Citra water apple contains a mild, sweet, and neutral flavour with a refreshing, crunchy, and aqueous nature.

🌞 Growing & Care Guide for Citra Trees

☀️ Sunlight & Soil

Citra trees thrive in full sun, needing 6–8 hours of direct sunlight each day. For best results, plant in well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH.

💧 Watering

Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods.
Deep, regular watering encourages juicy, well-formed fruit.

🌱 Fertilization

Feed your tree with a balanced fertilizer during the growing season.
For a nutrient boost, you can also add organic compost.

✂️ Pruning

Prune regularly to:

  • Maintain shape

  • Remove dead or diseased branches

  • Improve air circulation
Thin out dense interior growth to let sunlight reach the center.

🍂 Mulching

Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base to:

  • Retain moisture

  • Regulate soil temperature

  • Suppress weeds

🐛 Pest & Disease Control

Watch for common pests like aphids, scale insects, and anthracnose.
Treat with neem oil, insecticidal soap, or preventive fungicides as needed.

🌱 Support for Young Trees

Use stakes or tree supports to guide early growth and help young trees develop a strong, upright form.

🍎 Harvesting

Harvest when fruits turn a deep, vibrant color and feel firm yet juicy.
To avoid bruising, gently twist or cut the fruit from the branch.

🍃 Thinning

Remove excess young fruit early in the season to boost the size and quality of the harvest.
